Who Can Apply

Age
Both applicants must be at least 18 years old to apply independently. For those who are 17, both parents or legal guardians must be present at the Clerk’s office to provide signed consent for the license.
Previous Marriages
If either individual was previously married, you must provide the exact date the marriage ended. Indiana requires this dissolved date whether the previous union ended due to divorce, annulment, or death.
How to Apply
Obtaining your marriage license in Indiana is a clear and simple process. By following these steps at your local Clerk’s office, you can ensure all legal requirements are met well before your wedding day.

- Visit the Clerk: Both applicants must appear together in person at the County Clerk’s office in the county where at least one resides.
- Identify Yourself: Present your valid government-issued IDs and any required legal documents for clerk verification.
- Sign the Application: Review your details for accuracy and sign the official application under oath in the presence of the Clerk.
- Final Issuance: Once the application is complete and the fee ($25 for residents, $65 for non-residents) is paid, you will receive your license immediately.
Note: Your Indiana marriage license is good for 60 days from the day it’s issued. If your ceremony doesn’t happen within that time, no worries—you’ll just need to apply for a new license.
